Taking Part is a new research project created by young people in Spennymoor to research the kinds of things teenagers have been up to through the years from 1940. The year-long project has been funded through the Young Roots programme from the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by funding from Durham County Council. The young people will research drama, dance, and music making in the town with a particular focus on our unique theatre in the Spennymoor Settlement on O'Hanlan Street. The youngsters will be able to work alongside local historical authors and a team of dancers, web designer, filmmaker and musician. There is a great tradition of young people getting involved in arts activities as teenagers, some go on to earn a living at this. Spennymoor has a rich past of producing artists, authors and musicians. It also has some great venues that have hosted many famous artists as well Says Brian Wise, Project Manger The project will help the young people to develop research and discover how community life has changed over 70 years, and how it has impacted on ordinary people.
